Privacy policy

Outsmile collects no data.

Your notes are markdown files in a folder you choose. Outsmile has no account, no analytics and no servers, so there is nothing for us to collect, keep or share.

Effective 4 November 2026. Applies to the Outsmile app for macOS and to this website.

The app

• No personal data. Outsmile doesn't collect, store, sell or share any information about you or what you write.
• No tracking. No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no third-party SDKs.
• Your notes stay where you put them. Pages are plain .md files in the library folder you pick. Outsmile reads and writes that folder and files you open with it, nothing else.
• Its own settings stay on your Mac. Settings, pinned pages, page icons, folds and zoom, and daily snapshots of the pages you edit (kept for 14 days) are saved in the app's own folder on your Mac.

When the app goes online

Outsmile has no servers and sends nothing about you anywhere. It only uses the internet in two cases, both started by what's in your own pages:

• A picture from the web. If a page shows a picture by its https:// address, the app loads it from that website, which sees the request (like any picture on the web) under its own privacy policy. Pictures you paste are saved in your library and never uploaded.
• A link you open. Clicking a web link opens it in your browser.

Syncing

Outsmile doesn't sync. If you keep your library in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a similar service, that service copies the files under its own privacy policy.

This website

• It's hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests (such as your IP address) to deliver and protect the site.
• The waitlist form is run by Tally. The email address you enter is used only to tell you when Outsmile is available, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
• Your light or dark choice is remembered in your browser and never sent to us. The site sets no cookies of its own.

Children

Outsmile collects no data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
